The Dress Code
Fashion that bends expectation — without becoming costume.
The Surrealist Ball is a photographed, curated NYFW after-hours experience. The dress code is Surrealist Black Tie — formal attire interpreted through the lens of surrealism, identity, and illusion.
This is not a costume party. It is an evening of social theater. Your outfit is part of the atmosphere.
In short: The NYFW After Party dress code is Surrealist Black Tie — formal attire (gown, suit, or tuxedo) with one surrealist element such as a mask, sculptural headpiece, or altered silhouette. The event takes place February 13, 2026 at Gotham Hall in Manhattan. Tickets start at $139.95 with Afterpay available.
Exaggeration, not costume.
Control, not chaos.
Dressed for the room, not the mirror.
The Event
An NYFW after party inspired by art, fashion, and imagination
Where elegance meets the unexpected. The Surrealist Ball brings together designers, models, editors, and fashion enthusiasts for an evening that blurs the line between audience and atmosphere.
Not traditional. Not literal. Intentionally bold.
The Framework
The Four Rules

Women's Guide
Sharp shoulders. Dramatic volume. Unusual proportions.
Base: Floor-length gown, tailored suit, or structured cocktail dress in a dark or muted palette.
Surrealist layer: A sculptural headpiece, an ornate mask, a single oversized jewel, opera gloves in an unexpected fabric, or a cape that transforms the silhouette.
Shoes: Heels or structured boots. The venue has marble floors and staircases. Comfort matters, but the camera will find your feet.
Men's Guide
Your mask is an invitation. Be someone else. Only here.
Base: Black suit or tuxedo. Well-fitted. This is the foundation, not the statement.
Surrealist layer: An architectural mask, an unexpected lapel piece, a shirt with surrealist print beneath a structured jacket, sculptural cufflinks, or a dramatic collar.
Shoes: Leather dress shoes or polished boots. No sneakers.
Interpretation
How to Read Surrealist Black Tie
Start with something classic, then alter one element. The goal is tension between the expected and the unexpected.
Think of it as: 90% elegant, 10% strange.
The Mask
Venetian, sculptural, or architectural. Concealment as a style choice.
The Silhouette
Exaggerated shoulders, asymmetry, or proportion play. Structure as statement.
The Detail
One piece worn wrong on purpose. A glove, a brooch, an unexpected texture.
The Venue
Dress for the Room
Gotham Hall is a Beaux-Arts landmark in Midtown Manhattan with 30-foot gilded ceilings, marble columns, and dramatic architectural detail. The venue sets the tone before you do.
The lighting is warm and low. The atmosphere is intimate despite the scale. Your outfit will be seen in candlelight, in flash photography, and against gold and stone. Dark fabrics photograph well here. Metallics catch the light. White stands out sharply.
Room 16, the Surrealist Circle space, overlooks the main floor from an elevated balcony. Guests in this tier are visible from below. Dress accordingly.
